IGERT Fellow Dan Carlson is assisting a mechanical design team from Smith College with their project to optimize the drag characteristics of a soccer ball in flow. He will mentor them regarding the fundamentals of aerodynamic lift and drag forces, in particular the governing scaling relations which are crucial to prototype testing. They aim to complete the first round of testing by Mid November, and a final series late spring 2016. Dan will be be assisting them with donated wind tunnel testing time and related instrumentation.
