UMass Science Quest returned for a second session this spring, and IGERT fellows reprised their lesson on the challenges of siting offshore wind farms. High school students from around the state of Massachusetts traveled to campus to participate in the day-long science camp.

IGERT fellows Bob Darrow and Micah Brewer led a discussion of wind power basics in their course, covering concepts including the economic, technical and socio-political aspects of offshore wind development. Students used this information to complete an in-class activity in which they were asked to weigh different considerations in deciding where to site an imaginary turbine. The activity produced a spirited discussion among the students in attendance.
