Students from Four Rivers Charter Public School will show their film "Blades of Change" and talk about how they made it.  Their film is about why the Block Island offshore wind farm succeeded while the Cape Wind project failed, and what the future is for offshore wind power in Massachusetts.  In making the film they interviewed people from Mass CEC, DOER, and the statehouse; as well as executives at the Block Island wind farm developer, Deepwater Wind; folks from the Rhode Island Department of Energy; and some of the players in the Cape Wind project.  They also interviewed several of our IGERT PhD students here at UMass Amherst.

Four Rivers Charter Public School is dedicated to educating young people for lives of learning and service.  The school offers a rigorous college preparatory program aligned with the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks and an emphasis on character development for moral and social responsibility.  Three central themes -– nature, technology and community -- guide teaching and learning at the school, engaging students and teachers in a fundamental question of our times: How do we find the healthy, sustainable interrelationship of the natural world, technology in its many forms, and the human community?
