Advancements in Wind Turbine Blade Materials and Manufacturing

Companies around the world are competing to engineer the biggest- highest power rating and largest tower- wind turbine. Larger machines mean higher efficiency, but what are the barriers to that growth? In this talk, Koh will explore the materials and manufacturing innovations that are enabling larger and larger machines and review a selection of new technologies, including their own work on plant-based composite materials.

Rachel Koh has a BA in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UMass Amherst and is an assistant professor of engineering at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
