Energy Storage in our Decarbonizing Electricity System

Dan will talk about the energy storage system at the Mullins Center, which Borrego Solar developed and built with UMass-Amherst under the MA ACES program.  This big battery - along with a few other energy storage projects in Massachusetts that we'll discuss - provides insight into the role of energy storage in ISO-NE's decarbonizing electricity system.  Focusing on energy storage will help us appreciate the challenge of feeding New England's energy needs without carbon pollution, while also helping us envision solutions.

Dan is Borrego Solar’s General Manager of Development, with executive responsibility for all aspects of the project development business unit. Dan joined Borrego Solar in 2010, and has previously served as the company’s Director of Policy and Business Development, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, and most recently as General Manager of Energy Storage. In these roles, Dan has managed policy and government affairs for the company, led Borrego Solar’s market expansion efforts in New York, and launched Borrego’s energy storage business. Prior to joining Borrego Solar, Dan worked on renewable energy policy reform at the Texas House of Representatives. He’s also worked in the utilities practice area at The Brattle Group, an economic consulting firm, and he supported Federal policy efforts for the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. Dan earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Sloan School of Management and his Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
