Wind Energy and Society Studio is an interdisciplinary course based in the Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning Department. The class uses a studio-style of team learning centered on a case study. Three overarching objectives include:1) Place wind energy and renewables within broader social and policy goals (climate change, environmental justice, economics, federal and state policies); 2) Encourage cross-disciplinary problem solving through team-based active learning; and 3) Practice skills in one-way communication (presenting science to the public), and two-way communication (engaging the public in workshops and other public engagement techniques).
Three student teams from this class will give presentations at this seminar session on the following topics:
"Marine Spatial Planning Framework Applied to Offshore Wind Energy Development" (Andrew Allyn, Walt Jaslanek, Kathy McCusker, Kate McClellan, Ryan Wallace)
"Fitting the Block Island Wind Farm into a Global Economic Framework" (Gordon Stewart, Micah Brewer)
"Assessing Ongoing Stakeholder Engagement Opportunity in Off-Shore Wind Development" (Gwen Miller, Mohamad Farzinmoghadam)
