Mooring and anchoring for floating offshore wind turbines

Inspired by an internship at a gas-fired power plant in 2016, Doron has dreamt of contributing to the energy transition and of working in the wind energy industry. At UMass Amherst, he studies Mechanical Engineering and has found great opportunities for advancing his wind power knowledge and pursuing his dreams. He works under Professors Matthew Lackner and Sanjay Arwade to research mooring and anchoring systems for floating offshore wind turbines. Using NREL's FAST modeling software, he will be determining loads and evaluating novel designs for lines and anchors. Prior to UMass, Doron earned his bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering at Yale University and worked for three years as a product development engineer at Assa Abloy in New Haven.
